Certificate Programme in Foundations of Education Digantar has been organizing the Certificate Programme in Foundations of Education since August 2005. The present course which is VIII in the series would begin from 15th September 2012. The programme attempts to sensitize the participants towards the intricacies of the educational processes and also vies to put education in the larger theoretical frame. To expedite this process facilitators first work through the foundational areas of education, namely philosophical, sociological and psychological perspectives on education, then move to the curriculum framework and finally make a collaborative attempt to understand the nature and pedagogies of different subject areas. By initiating dialogues on the idea of school, teaching learning processes, merit, teacher education, research in education and by locating different forms of understanding in epistemic frame, this programme tries to dismantle the often held view on elementary education which trivializes it as an endeavor to develop merely literacy and numeracy skills in children, or maximum skills to contribute to the developing economy. 
Mode of Conduct
The workshop is conducted in an interactive mode with the day divided into three sessions of around one and a half hour each in addition to a morning feedback session. There is a constant attempt to involve the participants in the deliberations. Courses link theory and practice in a manner that engenders reflection. Teaching methodology for all courses include group work, observation, reading original texts, lectures and written assignments.
