The Academic Resource Unit (TARU)
The TARU building
TARU is the resource support wing of Digantar. The idea behind TARU emerged from the frequent demands from a variety of organisations for specific output based support. TARU undertakes research studies, need based training programmes, teacher education programmes, curriculum development, evaluation and documentation of Digantar’s own programmes. Some of the major studies and training programmes done in the past
  • Theory and Practice in Primary Education – a training programme for NGO staff
  • Pedagogical Renewal in Chattisgarh – this includes curriculum development, textbook revision and teacher training
  • Capacity building workshop for DPEP staff in a district in Rajasthan
  • Preliminary work for the development of a Teacher Education Package
  • A study of pedagogical innovation in Kerala under the DPEP
  • Modes of Schooling – a comparison of different schooling options in rural Rajasthan
  • Educational Initiatives in Rajasthan – a documentation of government and non-government educational initiatives in the state
  • Human Development Report – the paper on which the section on Education was based in the state Human Development Report, 2002. In 2005, we wrote a similar paper for a pilot report for Tonk district.
